Weekend Wrapup
Oct. 4th, 2009 10:19 pmOnce again posting with 18-pound cat on my forearms. No theme for today, unfortunately, just me blathering.
We went to the final Cardinals regular season game today. The weather was beautiful, sunny and just a touch too chilly after four hours and ten innings. Even though they lost 9-7 to the Milwaukee Brewers, we still had a good time. It's the first game we've been able to go to this season, between money issues and M's heart attack. But we found (not so great) seats for $20 each, and the Fan Appreciation gift of the day was a voucher for a free ticket each to a game next season. Hopefully we get better seats next time; having the two aisle seats wasn't all that great, since everyone for three rows decided to use our row to come and go (and come and go) all game. I could barely see home plate through the clear guardrail if I ducked, and if no one decided to just stand at the end of the tunnel and block my view. So note for next year: avoid section 437.
Given the constant interruptions, the charity hat I brought to work on during the game didn't get taken out until after the game, while we sat outside the stadium on the raised planting bed walls and waited for the MetroLink mob to thin out a bit. It's just a 2x2 rib hat in some rose Woolease left over from knitting bedsocks. I'll probably just toss it in the car in case I get stuck somewhere and need something to keep me from throttling people. It's amazing that having sharp metal sticks in my hands can reduce my need to commit mayhem. (Knitting needles don't stab people, people stab...never mind.)
My mom finds out tomorrow if she'll be in the hospital for another week recovering from her hip replacement surgery. The surgery was on September 18th. The doctors are a little concerned about how well the screws holding the new joint are going to heal, since she has osteoporosis. I know she's anxious to get home to Dad and the puppy (a.k.a. my spoiled rotten little "brother"), but we're anxious for this hip to heal right. If it does, it will be the first time in well over ten years that she'll be able to walk without extreme pain.
As usual, I end my weekend with just as many things on my to-do list as I started with on Friday. This week will be the first I've worked all five days since July; I'm a little worried about how far behind I'm going to get at home without Wednesdays off. I'm also worried about how I'm going to find enough to keep me busy all five days at work. Never thought I'd be grateful for all the tasks involved with month-end close.
